Rainbow Rush

I'm Running (Badly) for Birmingham Hospice

Let's get one thing straight: I do not run. My idea of cardio is briskly walking to the biscuit tin. And yet, on 19th September, I (and the girls) will be attempting a 5K colour run at Cofton Park, in front of witnesses, on purpose.

I've genuinely never run a 5K in my life. I've never run a 1K. I once got out of breath explaining to someone why I don't run. So this is either going to be a triumphant underdog story or a very colourful cry for help. Possibly both.

Why am I doing this to myself? Because of Olivia — my gorgeous friend with the smile that could light up a whole room (and frequently did, whether the room wanted it or not). Birmingham Hospice looked after her with such extraordinary care, kindness and dignity in her final months, and I will never be able to thank them properly. So instead, I'm going to jog/wheeze/crawl 5 kilometres while getting pelted with coloured powder, which feels like a fair trade.

Realistic expectations for the day:
🎨 I will finish covered in every colour of the rainbow
😅 I will not finish looking cool
🐢 I will be overtaken by at least one toddler and possibly a dog
💜 I will absolutely be thinking of Olivia the entire way round

If watching someone with zero athletic ability suffer for a good cause brings you joy (no judgement, it would bring me joy too), please sponsor me. Every pound goes to Birmingham Hospice, who give families exactly the kind of care and comfort Olivia's family were given — and that is worth more than my dignity, which, let's be honest, was never that intact to begin with.

For Olivia — with love, colour, and questionable running form. 💜

Good luck! As a fellow non runner (except for tennis balls and to biscuit tins) I know this is daunting but for a very worthy cause x
